Orchard Autumn 2

In Orchard Class this half term we are looking at the ‘World at War’ focusing on life 100 years ago.  The project is linked to the centenary of the end of World War 1. We will be looking at life at the Western Front and at home, what it was like to be a child in the war, its impact on family life and the role of women.

In Science, we will be investigating Materials and their properties, focusing on reversible and irreversible changes.

Throughout the term we will be working in our ‘Outdoor Classroom’ developing skills and using our environment to enhance our learning. There are visits planned to local woodlands to use the skills we have learnt.

During Autumn 1 we attended climbing lessons at Lancaster University and began working towards gaining an indoor climbing award. We are pleased to announce the sessions will continue during Autumn 2. It has been amazing to see our pupils develop new skills and deal with new challenges. We are also swimming at Carnforth Community Swimming pool each week.

Rick from More Music in Morecambe will be leading music sessions once a week with a focus on percussion. The children will work with Rick to produce an end of term performance.

Underpinning all our work we continue to teach the children about Values, PSHE and Zones of Regulation.

Orchard Class were invited to take part in a workshop at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster. The workshop was organised by Lancaster University. The children looked at Comic Strips produced by former Stepping stones pupils. https://dukes-lancaster.org/gallery/
