Headteacher Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our fabulous school, where you will find a wonderful team of dedicated and committed staff.  We work closely with each family to provide the best opportunities and experiences for their child to fulfil their potential and beyond.

Stepping Stones is a primary pupil referral unit. The school is based in Lancaster, also covering the areas of Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth, Wyre and Fylde. The school provides educational placements for up to 32 primary pupils aged between 5-11 who have been permanently excluded or who are at great risk of permanent exclusion.

The children access the full National Curriculum, alongside studies focussing on their social, emotional and behavioural development. We are especially proud of our Positive Mental Health strategy, where the children are taught how to develop a growth mindset and follow a values-based curriculum.  We were graded as an Outstanding school by Ofsted (March 2015 and March 2019).

The school aims to provide a friendly, caring and secure environment, in which all the children are valued. We strive to ensure every child is given the right balance of support and challenge in order for them to be able to make progress in all areas of school life. We aim for every child to be able to develop their resilience, confidence and a positive attitude to learning. We aim for every child to understand the importance of respecting themselves and others and the value of kindness.  We teach every child to understand their responsibility to make safe choices; in other words, skills for life.

We are very proud of the opportunities and experiences we are able to offer our families; keeping the children at the heart of everything we do.  The staff never give up and work hard to ensure the children learn and make progress; develop new skills and interests; are curious and develop their personal voice.

Our school website has lots of information about all aspects of school life and I hope you find it useful and informative.  It can, of course, only give a flavour of our school – should you have any further questions or wish to come and visit please contact the school office and we will be very happy to help.
