PE and Sports Premium

What is the PE and sport premium?

The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

How do we use the PE and sport premium?

At Stepping Stones School, we use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport we offer by:

  • developing and adding to the PE and sport activities we already offer
  • making improvements which will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
  • increasing the participation in PE and enhancing the children’s opportunities to a wide range of physical activities.

Our ultimate aim is to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision available whilst a child is attending Stepping Stones.

When planning how we will spend the PE and sport premium, we reference the five key indicators recommended by the Association for Physical Education and the Youth Sports Trust.

Key indicator 1: The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that primary school children undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day in school.

Key indicator 2: The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.

Key indicator 3: Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

Key indicator 5: Increased participation in competitive sport.

Since returning to school post COVID lockdowns our priority has been to increase the amount of physical activity across the school day.
