Oak Class Science

Yesterday, the children conducted a science experiment to model the ideas of Charles Darwin based on his observations in the Galápagos Islands. Different utensils were used to represent finch beaks, while a variety of sweets represented different types of seeds. We found that some ‘beaks’ were better suited to picking up certain ‘foods’ than others. This shows how animals can become adapted to their environment. Overtime species with features that help them survive – like the right beak shape for available food – are more likely to thrive and reproduce.
